POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION PURPOSE - The Lead Developer has expert knowledge in software configuration management, source control management and release management. Excellent understanding of the entire project life cycle. Ability to guide and direct project teams in the requirements gathering, design, and development of complex applications/programs. Must present ideas to review boards. The Lead Developer must work closely with architects to ensure proper system design. Ensures highest quality implementations from design through QA to production. Assists multiple team members and other project leads in the day-to-day activities related to project work. The Lead Developer must have the ability to study software packages and products to determine their viability within the solution being considered, or if they would be a good solution in other areas. The scope of the assignment includes maintenance and improvement of build and packaging process of over 300 internal software packages. Mentoring developers across the entire enterprise on standards and best practices for SCM. The candidate must be a self-starter and a creative problem solver that is dependable, highly organized, and able to prioritize and meet deadlines without full supervision. Strong oral and written communication skills are essential. The candidate must be able to create partners at all levels of the organization and team. Has a sense of urgency in order to meet our commitments and should be flexible and resilient in a dynamic environment.

MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES - Maintain and improve build and packaging process of over 300 internal software packages. Mentoring developers across the entire enterprise on standards and best practices for compiling, maintaining share libraries. View software packages, products and define, prioritize, plan and implement solutions across multiple complex projects. Ensure the team comprehends and applies the established processes, policies, standards and procedures. Provide status reports to Manager and review boards on complex development projects. Ensure compliance and conduct appropriate test reviews as necessary.

NATURE AND SCOPE - Typically reports to Manager, Information Technology No associates report to this role on a permanent basis, but requires the technical leadership of a project work team: may select team members and assess capabilities, provide technical training, provide information necessary to meet work, project or program objectives, evaluate program or project performance.

ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS - Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable. Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time. ESSENTIAL SKILLS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - 5-7 years of Rational ClearCase Administration 2 years of C and ESQL/C programming experience 2 years of shell script programming experience - Korn shell preferred 2 years of Java programming 2 years of MS .NET programming 3 years of UNIX or Linux
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS - Red Hat RPM experience HP Depot experience

EDUCATION REQUIRED - The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a high school diplomas and/or GED.

PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS - Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles. ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS -

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - Expert knowledge with databases. 7-10 years of related experience. Previous experience in technical project leadership role. Retail/business experience a plus. BS Computer Science or related field, MS a plus.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND COMPETENCIES - Ability to work independently with minimal direction. Ability to communicate to a wide variety of audiences, both business and technical. Understands the financial implications of the project (i.e. software capitalization, cost/benefits, etc.). Strong decision making abilities. Ability to lead and mentor others.
