POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION PURPOSE The Manager, Assortment Planning will lead an organization of several planners that provides subject matter expertise and analytical support on assortment decisions made by the Merchandising Organization. The Merchandising Organization is responsible for establishing and managing the assortments for approximately $80B of sales. The Manager of Assortment Planning is responsible for all aspects of managing the assortment planning process including: Ownership and execution of the Planning Calendar for the entire company (work closely with the Merchandising Vice Presidents to establish the assortment review calendar and then manage the execution of that calendar), mentoring & monitoring Planning associates, creating and revising process, executing all aspects of Assortment Plans, Business Reviews and PLRs, managing MarketMax application (including training, maintenance and mapfile), interact with executive level to deliver reporting, tracking and process management.

MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES * Develop and execute strategic calendar for all business reviews, PRLs and plans. Partner with Merchants and MVPs to set achievable goals and timelines. Provide process management to deliver tasks on time. Communicate results to Sr. Management. * Manage and maintain all aspects of the integrity of the MarketMax system. Maintain mapfile of calculations and calc priorities. Resolve issues quickly and effectively. Lead contact in all aspects of delivering upgrade to merchandising team including support merchandising organization in use of system upgrades. Provide training support. * Determine and develop strategic processes for Assortment Plans, Business Reviews and PLRs including standard reporting, Ad-hoc reporting, templates and Sell-thru tracking. Drive adherence in utilizing updated documents. Manage process to determine when change in process is needed. Communicate to all levels of management. * Create detailed Assortment Plans, Business Reviews and PLRs. Work with merchants to determine needs by category. Drive analytical support and decide along with merchant what the go-forward strategy should be. Develop high level or detailed assortment plans for all reviewed categories. Report out to all levels of management plan vs. actual results. Utilize category knowledge to determine most effective clustering options to maximize results. Accountable for accuracy, thought process, timeliness and viability. * Mentor and coach Merchandise Planners to ensure use of common processes and overall effectiveness in all aspects of Assortment Plans, Business Reviews and PLRs. Ensure the team's productivity and adherence to timelines. Ensure accuracy and intelligence thought processes. * Development of cross functional usage of MarketMax application throughout company.

NATURE AND SCOPE * Typically reports to VP Sourcing Operations. * Accountable for direct supervision of the work activities of others. In addition to personnel issues -- including selection, termination, performance appraisal and professional development of subordinates.

ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS * Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable. * Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time. ESSENTIAL SKILLS Minimum Qualifications * Must be eighteen years of age or older. * Must pass the Drug Test. * Must pass the Background Check. * Must pass pre-employment tests if applicable.

EDUCATION REQUIRED The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.

YEARS OF RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE - 5

PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS * MBA. * Technical aptitude comfortable with utilizing software as daily part of the job. * Exceptional attention to detail. * Superior merchandise planning and analysis knowledge, preferably at the sku or key item level. * Create and manipulate merchandise plans with an understanding of the retail method of accounting. * Create partners with all levels of the organization, including MVP's, GPM's, Visual Merchants, and Planogramming team. * Effectively prioritize multiple demands; adjust to change quickly; work constructively under stress. * Demonstrated leadership abilities and success at positively influencing peers and business partners.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND COMPETENCIES * Merchandise planning, key item planning, and or retail buying experience. * Retail financial analysis and presentation skills. * Experience with retail method of accounting. * Experience with Marketmax Assortment Planning software. * Management experience with multiple direct reports.
