POSITION DESCRIPTION Harris Research, a wholy-owned subsidary of The Home Depot, is currently seeking applicants for the Purchasing Assistant Position.

POSITION PURPOSE - To assist the Operation Manager with a variety of clerical duties in regards to operations, purchasing and data control. Successful candidate will be able to ensure an orderly and timely delivery of materials from vendors; timely and fiscally responsible return processing and invoice reconcilliations. Assist in negotiating non-complex arrangements between selected vendors.

MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES - Assist the Operations Manager with the management of material for manufacturing as well as the management of finished goods invenotries. Process all operations transactions includign the manufacturing production schedule, purchase orders, inventory cycle counts, and reciept of goods. Create reports to monitor customer service levels, back orders and inventory levels. Tracks cusotmer demand requirements and works with current and new supplier to source and manage equipment inventories. Develops new supplier sources and works with current suppliers to reduce material cost. Orders office supplies.

Processes requisitions, purchase orders, bids, proposals and quotations. ?? Checks for completeness, accuracy and compliance ?? Contacts vendors for prices, product information, new products, and standards. ?? Conducts necessary follow-up and tracking to finalize purchasing transactions. ?? Assists in resolving complaints and problems with vendors (purchase orders). ?? Enters purchase orders in computer system; follows-up purchase orders to ensure receipt of proper quality and quantity on specified dates; investigates and resolves problems regarding shipment discrepancies. ?? Inputs data into computer terminal. ?? Ensures proper documentation is on file (e.g., insurance certificates, contractor?s license, building permit) prior to award and/or purchase order delivery. ?? Summarizes bid/quotation results. ?? Maintain adequate inventory control of warehouse items and equipment. ?? Prepares requisitions for restocking and replacement of warehouse items. ?? Receive and verify all purchase orders and issue requisitioned items from inventory. ?? Input and retrieve data from the computerized inventory control system. ?? Assist in annual warehouse inventory. ?? Provide information on inventory to the Departments. ?? Receives shipments, inspect for proper quantity and quality, and distributes materials directly to requisitioners, or stored in inventory at proper locations ?? Maintains records and files in support of purchasing function and duties. ?? Perform general organization and clean-up of facilities. ?? Other duties as assigned.

ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS - ESSENTIAL SKILLS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - Knowledge of: ?? Purchasing standards, procedures and techniques applicable to local government ?? Warehouse and inventory methods and procedures ?? Techniques utilized to evaluate bids ?? Purchasing document preparation (PR, PO, POC) ?? Fiscal/statistical record keeping practices ?? Vendor and department customer contact and negotiation techniques ?? Modern office procedures, methods, and equipment, including internet and e-mail. ?? Basic purchasing terminology ?? English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation ?? Basic manufacturer?s parts nomenclature ?? Basic mathematical principles Ability to: ?? Work independently in the absence of specific instructions ?? Apply City purchasing principles, procedures and terminology ?? Learn methods of pricing, including the calculation of discounts and taxes ?? Perform responsible clerical work with speed and accuracy ?? Make mathematic calculations quickly and accurately ?? Operate a forklift ?? Lift approximately 55 lbs. ?? Perform physical labor required in the receipt and issuance of supplies ?? Maintain detailed and accurate records ?? Operate modern office machines, including calculators and computer ?? Understand and follow oral and written directions ?? Type at a speed necessary for successful job performance ?? Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing ?? Establish work priorities ?? Work in an environment with changing assignments/priorities/deadlines ?? Explain purchasing procedures ?? Exercise patience, tact and discretion ?? Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships. Education and Experience: ?? Two years of responsible work experience in purchasing and warehouse operations and inventory control. ?? Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade including or supplemented by courses in bookkeeping or purchasing.
