POSITION DESCRIPTION
POSITION PURPOSE - As Senior Systems Analyst/Engineer you will provide a high level, broad spectrum of systems analysis, engineering, and project management for Quality Assurance Store Infrastructure team. The primary work for this position is in support of non-production store infrastructure and application development teams. The incumbent will have primary responsibilities for one or more projects and secondary responsibility for other projects. This position also provides for problem analysis, communications and technical feedback between customers, and other IT units and provides support and technical escalation for infrastructure problem resolution. This position is distinguished by a hybrid combination of technology roles that include Systems Analyst, Systems Administrator, Systems Engineer, and Project Analyst. These are multi-tasking, broadly based, positions that require a unique combination of analytic, engineering, project management, and customer service skills to provide support for non-production store environments. Incumbents are proficient in troubleshooting and root cause analysis. This requires knowledge for the equipment and services for which the analyst/engineer is responsible. The Sr. Systems Engineer develops, maintains and supports The Home Depot's technical infrastructure, hardware, and system software components for moderately complex projects. Performs configuration, debugging and support for multiple infrastructure platforms on moderately complex projects. Performs root cause analysis for service interruption recovery; create preventative measures and present to managEment. Perform store & SSC engineering and roll-out implementation. Ability to present ideas and manage projects. Interface with Business Stakeholders on complex projects. Update manager on escalated issues. May operate as a team lead guiding newer associates or interns.
MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES - Perform installation, maintenance and support of system software, hardware and infrastructure and user support for moderately complex projects. May oversee this effort if acting in team lead capacity. Perform store & SSC engineering and roll-out implementation. Perform configuration, debugging and support for infrastructure platform for moderately complex projects. Perform root cause analysis for service interruption recovery; create preventative measures. Provide technical direction to System and Associate Engineers, Operations Specialists, and contractors. Interface with Business Stakeholders on all applicable projects. Update manager on all escalated issues.
NATURE AND SCOPE - Typically reports to Manager, Information Technology Responsible for helping others and providing on-the-job training or guidance
ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS - ESSENTIAL SKILLS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS -
EDUCATION REQUIRED - The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a high school diplomas and/or GED.
YEARS OF RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE - 3
CERTIFICATES/LICENSES -
PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS - Frequent periods are spent standing or sitting in the same location with some opportunity to move about; occasionally there may be a need to stoop or lift light objects (typically less than 8 pounds).
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS - Knowledge and experience with computer hardware, operating systems and system software.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - * Strong knowledge of system architecture and software quality assurance methodologies. * Broad-based "IT technical generalist" skills and proven ability to effectively multitask to keep projects moving across all fronts. * Experience in project management as well as using SDLC or like processes to manage projects. Ability to listen to user issues and translate to determine appropriate technical solution. * Ability to work autonomously and use strong technical troubleshooting skills to quickly resolve a variety of system architecture issues. * Ability to communicate proactively and concisely at all levels within the organization both verbal and written. * Strong skills using accepted change control management processes. * Knowledge of UNIX and Linux server architecture, 3 and 4 tier web / app server architecture, operations architecture, configuration management, and hands on technical support required for position. * Experience with server virtualization (VM Ware) a big plus. * BS Computer Science or related field. * 5-7 years experience is preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND COMPETENCIES - Solid knowledge of the PC (hardware and software) is essential. Ability to listen to what the user is saying and then interrpret what he/ she is trying to get across. Ability to work autonomously and with a diverse team. Ability to communicate at all levels within the organization. Ability to present ideas and manage projects.
