POSITION DESCRIPTION
POSITION PURPOSE - The Systems Engineer develops, maintains and supports technical infrastructure, hardware, and system software components for small to mid-sized projects. Performs configuration, debugging and support for multiple infrastructure platforms on mid-sized and smaller projects. Performs root cause analysis for service interruption recovery; create preventative measures and present to management. Ability to listen to user issues and translate to determine appropriate technical solution.
MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES - * Perform installation, maintenance and support of system software and user support on small to mid-sized projects. * Perform configuration, debugging, troubleshooting and support for multiple infrastructure platforms on small to mid-sized projects. * Monitoring and tuning platforms to ensure expected availability and performance levels are achieved. * Perform installation, maintenance and support of hardware and infrastructure on small to mid-sized projects. * Perform root cause analysis for service interruption recovery; create preventative measures and present to management. * Responsibilities including day-to-day administering of Linux (RH ES), Vmware ESX and Window servers. * Monitoring performance and health of the production environment and provide recommendation for improvement to address any technical issues. * Follow defined configuration and administration procedures to maintain a high level of service and ensure optimal availability in the production environment. * Ensure stability, viability and maintenance of the 24/7 mission-critical production environment. * Plan, document and execute technical changes as needed according to approved business requirements and Change Management process. * Assist in store & Store Support Center engineering and roll-out implementation.
NATURE AND SCOPE - Typically reports to Manager, Information Technology Responsible for helping others and providing on-the-job training or guidance
ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS - ESSENTIAL SKILLS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS -
EDUCATION REQUIRED - The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a high school diplomas and/or GED.
YEARS OF RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE - 1
CERTIFICATES/LICENSES - Preferred: Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE), Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE), VMware Certified Professional (VCP).
PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS - Most of the time is spent sitting or standing in the same location or there may be a need to stoop regularly or move/lift light material or equipment (typically less than 8 pounds).
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS - Knowledge and experience with computer hardware, operating systems and system software.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - BS Computer Science or related field. 3-5 years experience is preferred. General knowledge of Home Depot is helpful. Ability to write good technical documentation.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND COMPETENCIES - Working knowledge of the PC (hardware and software) is essential. Ability to listen to user issues and translate to determine appropriate technical solution. Ability to work autonomously and with a diverse team. Ability to communicate at all levels within the organization.
