POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION PURPOSE - The Home Depot is undergoing an extensive Supply Chain Systems Transformation to drive its systems to be world class. This position is geared for an individual who is challenged and driven by large scale enterprise projects, that is technically complex and with aggressive delivery timelines. This position will work on a team that is responsible for rolling out and supporting Manhattan's Warehouse Management Open Systems (WMOS) to the supply chain distribution centers. The Systems Engineer develops, maintains and supports The Home Depot's technical infrastructure, hardware, and system software components for moderate to highly complex projects. Performs hardware cost estimation and procedurement using the THD procedurement process, configuration, debugging and support on multiple infrastructure platforms. Performs root cause analysis for service interruption recovery; create preventative measures and present to management. Perform software installation and roll-out implementation. Ability to present ideas and manage projects. Update manager on escalated issues. May operate as a team lead guiding newer associates or interns and coordinating the work of matrix teams.

MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES - Perform installation, maintenance and support of system software and user support on small to mid-sized projects. Perform configuration, debugging and support for multiple infrastructure platforms on small to mid-sized projects. Monitor and tune platforms to ensure expected availability and performance levels are achieved. Perform installation, maintenance and support of hardware and infrastructure on small to mid-sized projects. Perform root cause analysis for service interruption recovery; create preventative measures and present to management. Assist in store & SSC engineering and roll-out implementation.

NATURE AND SCOPE - Typically reports to Manager, Information Technology Responsible for helping others and providing on-the-job training or guidance

ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS - ESSENTIAL SKILLS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS -

EDUCATION REQUIRED - The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a high school diplomas and/or GED.

CERTIFICATES/LICENSES -

PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS - Most of the time is spent sitting or standing in the same location or there may be a need to stoop regularly or move/lift light material or equipment (typically less than 8 pounds).
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS - Knowledge and experience with computer hardware, operating systems and system software.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - Technical * Large Enterprise IT infrastructure experience; 5 years experience * UNIX and Windows Server platform experience * Supply Chain Experience * Exposure to Manhattan's Warehouse Management Open Systems (WMOS) Software * Working knowledge AIX ksh scripting required. Experience using awk/sed. * Working knowlege of Dos Shell Scripting with WMI/VBscript or Powershell skills a plus. * Working knowledge of Clear Case/Clear Quest, Opsware, Matrix42 a plus. * Experience writing, debugging SQL scripts for DB2/UDB v8+. Soft Skills * Strong written and communication skills; facilitate meetings; plan small projects * Ability to partner with a matrix resource organization BS Computer Science or related field. 3-5 years experience is preferred. General knowledge of Home Depot is helpful.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND COMPETENCIES - Working knowledge of the PC (hardware and software) is essential. Ability to listen to user issues and translate to determine appropriate technical solution. Ability to work autonomously and with a diverse team. Ability to communicate at all levels within the organization.
